Hear from the Characters in "Behind Blank Eyes"
At 4:45 a.m., Emily awakened to the pain of sharp pummeling to her head, one fist after another. Her eyes weren’t open yet, but she could smell the stink of whiskey on clothes, fists, and hot breath over her face. The physical pain felt like sharp knives, followed by heaviness and an ache, which left her unable to lift her head.
Her monster of a husband slurred repeatedly until he passed out on the floor.
Elle's character "Emily" is developed such that we can understand and feel for her predicament --and that of the many others she represents.
